Urbaniak Bros. Quality Meats, founded by Bernard Urbaniak in 1929 has a long and proud heritage of business in the Erie area. Initially called Urbaniak's Meats, it became Urbaniak Bros. in 1934 when Ben's 16 year old brother (Chester) joined  the company. In later years, two more brothers, Edward and Theodore joined as well.

Urbaniak Bros. has operated through 12 wars, 16 presidents, the Great Depression,  and some 5 score of USDA regulations aimed solely at the retail meat industry.  From the humble beginnings of one cooler and 10 feet of counter space, which served a concentrated section of Erie's east side, it has grown to a 7,000 square foot market house that serves the tri-state area and ships its products to all 50 states.

Gerry Urbaniak began working at the family business on his 7th birthday in 1959. He obtained a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and a M.A. in Developmental Economics from UCLA. He has taught undergraduate economics at UCLA, Gannon and Mercyhurst Universities. Although he had a career in the field of economic consulting (most notably at USAID), he returned to the family business in the 1980's to join his brother (Andy). These two sons of Chester Urbaniak own and operate the business to this day, and pride themselves on the successful continuation of their family's vocation.
