Mercy Center for Women

Since 2017, Jennie Hagerty has been the executive director for the Mercy Center for Women, a nonprofit in Erie whose mission is to provide transitional housing and support services to women and their children who are homeless. Prior to that role, she was the director of advancement at Saint Jude the Apostle Church and Saint Peter Cathedral. Jennie graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management degree. In 2018 the American Fundraising Professionals Northwester PA Chapter awarded her the 2018 Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year.

One of Erie’s most seasoned and accomplished fundraising professionals, Jennie’s commitment to whatever cause she stands behind is a blueprint for others to follow. She goes to great lengths to fight for the underserved, the poor, the homeless, and others who are overlooked or disregarded. Her most recent accomplishment is the conceptualization, oversight, and fundraising efforts to transform the vacant Holy Rosary School into an affordable housing and resource hub, the first of its kind in Erie, now named the Mercy Anchor Community Center.

With Jennie spearheading the capital campaign, the project raised an astounding $4.5 million from private donors, foundations, local businesses, gaming revenue resources, and state tax credit programs. Included in those funds was the largest Neighborhood Assistance Fund award ever given to a project in northwest Pennsylvania, $613,125. Earlier this summer, the Mercy Center was awarded a $25,000 grant from the State Farm Neighborhood Assistant program for the center’s community garden project.

Garnering votes for the project and competing with 199 other projects from across the country, the Mercy Center community garden was one of 100 nationally chosen to receive this grant. This grants program received 4,000 entries nationally. Finally, the Mercy Center was recently notified the Mercy Anchor Community Center project is being presented with 2022 Preservation Erie Award for transforming a vacant building into a much-needed community project.
